4 oz $100.00 999 slv bar?
i saw this at the local coin dealer in a rather nice looking case. seems there are quite a few pictures of it online as well. 4 ounces... looks like a 100 dolalr bill...all sorts of special dyes. he was selling it at about 4 dollars over spot at the time.
other than being an interesting conversation piece...worth the price over spot? i'm pretty sure it's worth about...oh say...4 ozs of silver, but i thought i'd check. opinions? should i :haha: and move on? |

I bought one for $65. They are really neat. I see them usually going for 70 or 80 bucks. |

Re: 4 oz $100.00 999 slv bar?
so it does have some numismatic value? well thats at least something. to me, right now, it's only worth 4 ozs of silver. a few dollars over spot right now would cost me...roughly 64-68 bucks. it would make a nice gift , i suppose. but future value as a collectors item someone would want 20 years down the line? i figured only you fellers in this section would have a guess...if it has no chance of future num value, i may still pick it up and send it to the folks. thanks again,

Re: 4 oz $100.00 999 slv bar?
Numismatic value would depend on how many were made. (scarcity)
It probably won't become a collectors item if millions were produced. I only own 1 of them. Probably won't rush out and buy any more though. Mostly I prefer bullion. You either like it at the price they're asking or you don't buy it. The choice is yours. But 4 bucks over spot is peanuts. Many coins are far above that in premium. |

I class it as a "novelty"/conversation item. I've seen a number of them at coin shows. I found one several years ago at a flea market for less than spot at the time...seems like I traded the guy 15 FRNs...tarnished, no case, no paper, and not damaged. It cleaned up well. I sealed it in mylar to keep the air off it. I see it as real money!
Wouldn't care to get another one unless I could get it at spot or <. I think unless someone collects different forms or just want's it for a conversation piece. IMO though it's bullion it's not a liquid as a round or bar. Always gotta consider trade-out eh? :) |

Wow? I really don't know what to say, except wow?
Remember those huge 1 troy ounce Silver Eagles that were advertised all over the place (Guns & Ammo, MotorTrend, Field and Stream, etc.)? Well, at the time they were selling for $10 or $15 over spot (per oz.). I though who would by something like this? In the last few weeks when I bought silver from one of my dealers, I was paying spot for these! I got about 6 or 7 of them. My 14 mons. Granddaughter loves them (to her there like playing with manhole covers) plus she likes the sound. As for numismatic value ...fuggettaboudit! They would have to be produced by the Treasury of the United Sates of America in limited quantities and each one numbered with a corresponding Certificate of Authenticity. The enameled $100 (4 oz'ers) are worth what ever spot is for that day. No more, no less. Don't let your emotion determine your Silver Purchases. Maranatha, |
